CMHC Can Help Make Home Ownership a Reality

OTTAWA, Ontario, April 3, 2001 — Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has the information prospective Canadian consumers need to ensure they make informed decisions on their way to home ownership.

April is one of the busiest times for prospective home owners in the market to buy or sell their homes and CMHC's information products are an ideal way to begin that home purchase process.

CMHC's current consumer information campaign, "Before You Buy a Home, Ask CMHC", highlights the Corporation as the source of the most comprehensive, unbiased information on housing in Canada. The free, "Homebuying Step by Step Guide" will help Canadians save time and money by answering many of their homebuying questions, all in one volume.

As Canada's national housing agency, CMHC also provides Canadians with mortgage insurance to help them buy a home with as little as five per cent down payment. Last year, CMHC mortgage loan insurance helped over 145,00 households realize their dreams of home ownership.

CMHC also has several other information products, that can help Canadians with home ownership.

The "Homeowners' Inspection Checklist" and "Your Next Move" are prime examples of the quality information related to home buying available from CMHC. As well it offers a wide range of consumer information on other aspects of home ownership ranging from: financing, to energy efficiency, to indoor air quality and flexible and adaptable housing.

April is also New Homes Month, an annual Canadian Home Builders' Association event that provides consumers with information showcasing the building industry's professionals, products and services.
