33 New Housing Units for Seniors in La TuqueLA TUQUE, Quebéc, October 3, 2003 - On behalf of Minister of Municipal Affairs, Sports and Recreation Jean-Marc Fournier, Ms Julie Boulet, Minister of Transport and member for Laviolette, dedicated the new Le Renaissance housing project in La Tuque in the presence of local mayor and Corporation Le Renaissance board chairman Gaston Fortin. The new building features 33 new housing units for seniors. The building, which required investments of close to $2.7 million, was made possible thanks to the participation of public and private partners under AccèsLogis Québec. A total of $1.9 million covering construction and rent supplement costs is being shared equally by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Société d'habitation du Québec, and the community. The federal contribution is being awarded under the CMHC-SHQ agreement on affordable housing, which provides for up to 6,500 units to be built in Quebec. "This housing project will symbolize the partnerships concluded by the various levels of government for the purpose of building affordable housing," stated the Honourable Steven Mahoney, Secretary of State responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. "Successes like these are essential to developing strong communities not only in Quebec, but all across Canada." "The Quebec government is proud to see the completion of these new social and community housing units, which offer seniors in La Tuque quality housing and the opportunity to stay in their own community," said Ms Boulet.
