CMHC 60th Anniversary Celebration Raises Funds for Local Shelter

TORONTO, Ontario, December 01, 2006 — CMHC raised over $5,500 today through a gingerbread house build fundraising competition organized by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to benefit the Salvation Army’s Florence Booth House. These funds were raised as part of an event marking CMHC’s 60th year of helping to house Canadians.

"Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation is proud to celebrate 60 years of helping Canadians," said Peter Friedmann, General Manager of CMHC`s Ontario Business Centre. “It is a legacy that dates back to meeting the housing needs of veterans returning to Canada after the Second World War.”

CMHC took this opportunity to thank its partners, including the non-profit sector and financial institutions that have contributed to its success over the years.

Media representatives and CMHC’s housing partners teamed up to compete in a gingerbread house build for charity. The gingerbread houses were sold in a silent auction, with the proceeds going to help the residents of the Salvation Army’s Florence Booth House.

“We want to thank CMHC and all the participants of the gingerbread house competition for their contribution,” said Major Ken Percy, Director of Public Relations Salvation Army. “This event is a wonderful example of how partners can help spread the holiday spirit while standing beside marginalized and overlooked people, and make a difference in lives by giving hope today!.”
