CMHC 60th Anniversary Celebration Raises Funds for Battered Women's Support ServicesVANCOUVER, British Columbia, December 07, 2006 — A total of $5,825.00 was raised yesterday through a bird house build fundraising competition organized by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to benefit Battered Women's Support Services. These funds were raised as part of an event marking CMHC's 60th year of helping to house Canadians. "Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation is proud to celebrate 60 years of helping Canadians", said Nelson Merizzi, General Manager of CMHC's BC Region. "It is a legacy that dates back to meeting the housing needs of veterans returning to Canada after the Second World War." CMHC took this opportunity to thank its partners, including representatives from the non-profit sector and financial institutions, who have contributed to its success over the years. CMHC's housing stakeholders teamed up to build some highly imaginative and sustainable bird houses, which were then auctioned off to the highest bidder. The proceeds will be donated to the Battered Women's Support Services, an organization whose works reflects that of CMHC, helping to support Canadians in need. "We want to thank CMHC and all the participants of the bird house competition for their contribution", said Erin Henderson of the Battered Women's Support Services. "This event is a good example of how we can help spread the holiday spirit and make a difference in the lives of those in need." Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has been Canada's national housing agency for more than 60 years. CMHC is committed to helping Canadians access a wide choice of quality, affordable homes, while making vibrant, healthy communities and cities a reality across the country. For media enquiries:
