CMHC and Habitat for Humanity Team Up for their Fifth Annual Charity Gingerbread House CompetitionOTTAWA, Ontario, December 09, 2006 — More than 30 unique gingerbread houses created by local students, businesses and bakeries are on display at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's (CMHC) National Office as part of the fifth annual CMHC – Habitat for Humanity Home for the Holidays charity gingerbread house competition. The design competition, a joint partnership between CMHC and Habitat for Humanity — National Capital Region, has quickly become an anticipated community event and holiday tradition. The public is invited to walk through the gingerbread village in CMHC's main lobby, at 700 Montreal Rd. in Ottawa, December 9 and 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and vote on their favourite home. Winners of the Gingerbread House Contest will be selected by a panel of judges and visitors will be asked to cast their vote for the "People's Choice" award. Awards for the best design will be presented on Sunday December 10 at 2 p.m. This event raises funds for Habitat for Humanity's efforts to build homes in the National Capital area. Habitat for Humanity has built 29 homes in the National Capital Region to date, and CMHC is proud to contribute toward the construction of new homes through this charity event. Bids will be accepted on the gingerbread houses through a silent auction held until December 10, at 4 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the National Capital Region branch of Habitat for Humanity.
