OTTAWA, Ontario, April 12, 2007 — The Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) announced today the appointment of Jim Millar to CMHC’s Board of Directors. A former employee of CMHC, Mr. Millar will sit on the board as the representative of the National Capital Region.
“Mr. Millar brings to the position an extensive knowledge of public policy” said Minister Solberg. “I am confident that Mr. Millar’s expertise will be of tremendous value to CMHC and the millions of Canadians who benefit from the Corporation’s work.”
A career public servant, Mr. Millar worked in several government departments, including the Privy Council Office, Manpower and Immigration, the Public Service Commission, and Transport Canada. In 1989, he joined the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Government of Australia, as Assistant Secretary, Trade and Industry on an interchange assignment. Mr. Millar joined CMHC in 1998 as a Team Leader of the Total Compensation Review (TCR) and Chairperson of the TRC Advisory Committee. Later that year he was appointed General Manager, Human Resources and Organizational Development Directorate and, in October 2000, he was appointed Vice-President, Human Resources and Pension Fund. In May 2002, he was named Vice President, Strategic Planning, Risk Management and Communications, and he was appointed Vice-President, Risk Management and Communications in February 2004.
Since his retirement from CMHC, Mr. Millar has been an Associate with the Sussex Circle, an Ottawa based consulting group providing advice on strategy, policy, organization and finance to senior clients in government, business and the voluntary sector. Mr. Millar holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics and Political Science from Bishop’s University and a Master of Public Administration from Carleton University.
Minister Solberg thanked outgoing board member Louis Ranger for his valuable contribution to the corporation.
