Minister Solberg Announces Appointment to CMHC Board

OTTAWA, Ontario, January 30, 2008 — The Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) announced today the appointment of Brian Johnston to CMHC's Board of Directors. Mr. Johnston will sit on the board as a representative of the Ontario Region.

“Mr. Johnston brings to the position extensive experience in land development, home building, property management and real estate,” said Minister Solberg. “I am confident that Mr. Johnston's expertise will be of tremendous value to CMHC and the millions of Canadians that the Corporation serves.”

Mr. Johnston is a chartered accountant by profession. He is the President of Monarch Corporation, one of Canada's oldest and largest real estate companies. In addition to his responsibilities at Monarch Corporation, Mr. Johnston is an active member within the homebuilding industry. He is a past president of the Ontario Home Builders' Association. Mr. Johnston obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto.

Minister Solberg thanks outgoing board member Hugh Heron for his valuable contribution to CMHC.

As Canada's national housing agency, CMHC draws on more than 60 years of experience to help Canadians access a variety of quality, environmentally sustainable, and affordable homes — homes that will continue to create vibrant and healthy communities and cities across the country.
