Affordable Housing Project Opens in Baker BrookBAKER BROOK, New Brunswick, July 19, 2008 — The Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick officially opened an affordable housing project in Baker Brook, New Brunswick today, funded under the Canada – New Brunswick Affordable Housing Agreement. The project, developed by La Société d’habitation de Baker Brook, creates 10 new affordable housing units for seniors and persons with special needs. "Our government is proud to be investing in affordable housing in Baker Brook, and across Canada, for those most in need," said the Honourable Greg Thompson, Regional Minister for New Brunswick, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation . “This project in particular will ensure that seniors and people with special needs can begin to build safer, stronger and better futures for themselves.” Les Résidences Baker Brook is located at 10 Théophile Street in Baker Brook, and received a total of $250,000 in federal funding to offset the construction costs, as well as $374,000 in rent supplements from the Province of New Brunswick for the 10 units. Phase I and II of the Canada – New Brunswick Affordable Housing Agreement invovles investments of over $45 million to create and sustain affordable housing for low to moderate income households in New Brunswick.
